The monkeypox virus has been endemic in Africa for decades. The West had not done much to address it or to help out. Ironically, the FDA approved an antiviral drug that's effective against smallpox last year. But we lost the opportunity to say, hey, there's an ongoing outbreak of monkeypox,. why not offer to help out in Africa and do a clinical trial there?
