What he doesn't like is communism enacted by the state. He thinks you are in the domain of the mafia and the protection racket. But voluntary communism in which people freely choose to join societies, groups or compounds would be fine. That might look like a version of America that works for Gandhi. It has to be possible to freely join and to freely leave.
