The Importance of Evidence in Mormon Studies

Hugh Nibley first popularized this issue in a series of articles published in the LDS Church's periodical Ensign from October 1975 to August 1977. In the series Nibley made connections between the Enochic text Smith added to the King James version of Genesis 5 and ancient Jewish and Christian pseudopigrapher. Colby Townsend found over 80 sources that Joseph Smith could have had access to that talk about the themes and ideas and translations of the book of Enoch which means he could have been swimming in these ideas.
