If you're good, you'll still usually win in Mario Cart but luck plays a significant role. In real life, when you're ahead, you're given lots of power-ups to get further ahead. This doesn't mean that people with good power-ups will succeed, or those without them won't. But I just don't buy the argument that the power-ups are irrelevant.
