The Diaries of Gauss

gauss on some level, had prefigured a huge amount of what went on right through up to 18 80. It's a measure of how much he did that his collected works were still being printed until 19 29. Huge amounts of work was done, not just in the diaries, also elsewhere. There are a lot of stecets in there. So you see things like a eureka. And we now know what he discovered is that every number can be written as the sum of what we call three triangular numbers. Triangular numbers that relate back to that very early story of adding up one to a hundred. That's the hundredth triangular number.
