The Risk of Sexual Dimorphism in Gorillas
Gorillas become sexually dimorphic as they age. Males don't develop their characteristic large size silver backs of large head bumps called sagittal crests until about age 12. Sally who's lived in the zoo since 2018 was young and healthy. She hadn't needed any veterinary procedures that would have resulted in zookeepers determining her true sex.
