Is There a Light Source in a Shot?

I like justification for lighting in a shot. I think it adds to kind of realism. I'm not necessarily saying naturalism because I've done some films that don't necessarily look very naturalistic, but I hope you kind of believe the lighting is real. You believe the world that has been created in terms of the way the light works in that space. Obviously you've got to think about what you're shooting, but you need it to come out. So I've always been kind of a minimalist, I suppose,. and that's why I like justification for Lighting in a Shot.
