The difficulty of improving a state of the art speech recognition system at a large company is similar to improving a trading system, says Tay. In te let's sey, you build a speech recognizer, and your speech recognizer works 95 % of the time, and then a different company builds it and it works 96%. But in finance, the difference is that one is one % better than the other, right? That is what matters. And er, this competitive nature makes it much more likely to use the one that gains money instead of the one that loses money.
