Trading Networks, Cotton Fabric, and the Emergence of Lingua Franca

This chapter explores the impact of trading networks on the diet and lifestyle of western Europe, including the adoption of cotton fabric as a popular alternative to wool. It also discusses the blending of languages and the emergence of a shared trading language known as lingua franca, as well as the establishment of Christian military orders for protection.
