When prices are high relative to earnings, that sets you up for years ads of slightly lower returns than you'd otherwise see. So there's more evidence for individual stocks that higher prices relative to current earnings means that earnings will grow in the future. This is a long horizon phenomenon, and therefore one that is not overstated. But i want o no give we don't really. The empirical work establishes the fact, but not the causality.
