Real time payment systems have been available in many markets outside the US for a long, long while. If you're using traditional banking rules, most of the transactions that you have the settlement time is going to take two to three days,. Think about, for instance, the use of checks. Paper checks are expensive to process. They take forever to settle. It's definitely something that is less common than it used to be.
