The 2011 Man Booker Prize was judged notoriously by Stella Ramington, the former director of MI5. She made an imperishable notorious remark about the principal criteria and being readability. This caused huge sort of fluttering of the dovecups in literary London. One effect was you did see that the people running the Man Booker Prize started to choose more practicing academics on the judging panels.
