The Importance of Internal Cues in Coaching

Dorsey: I did not invent the terms internal versus external they've been around for a long time. And so from an internal perspective we define internal cues as any cue that encourages the athlete to focus on joint motion. Even within those internal cues though there's varying levels and that I could comment on extend your hip during a sprint for example, or I could say drive your leg back. Dorsey: There are figurative cues cues that leverage more than visual nature of the mind that we call analogies or metaphors. The final category that we haven't touched on is literal cues cues that reference the literal body and the literal environment.
