The Limits of Talk Therapy in Psychoanalysis
Reich is one of the first people who understood just sort of empirically in the process of working with patients in therapy that the talk therapy of psychoanalysis was very limited. The way a person carries their body physically can sometimes tell you a lot more about what's going on than whatever words they might produce in free association. Reich began to direct therapy in a way that he thought that the neurotic symptoms are fueled by energy that is locked up and bound in a way that prevents it from being discharged in a normal healthy way.
