The Role of Desmo-Pressin in the Management of Central Diabetes Incipidus

Central diabetes incipidus is a cause of uvolemic hypernatremia. The management of CDI includes the correction of free water deficit and the administration of Desmo-Pressin Acetate, or DDAVP. In critically ill patients, edema and peripheral vasoconstriction may preclude effective subcutaneous administration. An advantage of vasopressin is the quick on-off effect.
