The Hour of Mercy in Judaism
In Jesus's day, every day in the temple they would offer a sacrifice that was associated with atonement. The idea of three o'clock is the hour of mercy is deeply anchored in, in, in first century Judaism. In Matthew 27, we read that Jesus is derided and mocked and reviled in wisdom too.
