The right upper vein is the most commonly involved vein in cemetera syndrome. The descending trunk connecting the right venous return to the right atrium under x-ray or fluoroscopy looks like a crescent shape, similar to a Turkish sword from the Ottoman Empire. Dr. Harris: These patients very often present not with the direct consequences of pulmonary over circulation, but rather with the consequences of left lung hypoplasia and recurrent pulmonary infections.
