What Is the Relationship Between the Art and the Text?
Sontag: Art is an invitation. It's a dialogue. It requires an interlocutor. I think that she's trying to talk about the way in which the relationship between the observer or the experiencer and the work of art is framed. She says at one point that there's something that art does in us, it stimulates in us, that is not knowledge, but has the form of knowledge. So, what you were pointing out, or what I just heard in what you were saying was that really the audience that you were with wasn't really engaging with the art. They weren’t even interpreting by reading into the work, whatever it is that they wanted to do
