The Athenians Were Not Just Obcessively Pro Athenian, but Also a Liberal Democratic Empire
Kagan and zimern both draw on this history from a colony called thuri, which is not written about in the peloponnesian war. They use it as an example of a multi ethnic, well pen greek colony to show that athenians were pro-athenian. And britain and athens were all liberal democracies who were just also, incidentally, empires. So sparta might in fact have been mad at athens, and that might have had something to do with the war. But the spartans were wrong, because athens was perfect.
