Imperialist Nostalgia - A Novel Review

Renato Rosaldo's 1989 essay, Imperialist nostalgia is haunting me in the same way that both regards 1981 analysis of image commodification haunts me. My anger at recent films that portray imperialism with nostalgia informs this essay. A person kills somebody and then mourns his or her victim. In more attenuated form someone deliberately alters a form of life and then regrets that things have not remained as they were prior to his or her intervention. At one more remove people destroy their environment and then worship nature.
