I would certainly not contest the notion that most Native American societies had forced labor prior to European arrival. The term used utterly non racially here women didn't get the right to vote in the USA until 1920. So many native tribes that did break battle captives and use them as slaves would allow their children to become free. I'm not sure whether I'd rather be dead very early on or see my children continue my bondage. It's definitely a Sophie's choice.
