N nets were used in ancient times to stop opponents from boarding ships. In the 1800s they were reinvented as a defense against torpedoes. They were invented again in the First World War as a protection against aircraft. And then in the Second World War, barrage balloons came back. This time it was the cable from the balloon that was the main hazard to aircraft. So they have proved quite effective in different ways against different weapons over the course of history.

Although Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ party fell short of a majority in parliament, meaning there will be a second vote, the incumbent prime minister did much better than expected.
