At first it was just Toronto and Ottawa whose mayors were getting so-called strong mayor powers from the province. Now a lot of other mayors in more than two dozen other municipalities want those powers as well. JMM: The odds are very good that if you're listening to this podcast right now, you live in a city whose mayor is getting stronger powers. On Friday, last week, municipal affairs minister Steve Clark announced that the government would be expanding strong mayor powers to 26 other municipalities in Ontario. This includes almost all of the cities with populations over 100,000 - including something like 70% of the provincial population.
