When Napoleon, the hero of the Revolutionary Wars, got a hold of neo-classicism, he applied them to himself. He created a cult of personality through artistic propaganda. The Oath of Herodii from 1784 and the Death of Socrates from 1787 are two paintings by Jacques-Louis David that exemplify the movement.
