A lot of these things have happened in the past. They say that we're going to move away from country-based economies to a decentralized cyber economy. Most are many services that we think of today as being public and having to be provided by the government can become private services. There'll be a revolt and social unrest from the new, unemployable underclass which will come from automation and technology. And there will be this massive neoludite revolt and uprising against the upper classes and anybody who's taking advantage of these new technologies.

In this episode of Made You Think, we discussed “The Sovereign Individual,” a book published in 1996 predicting how the Internet would change our lives and work over the following decades. Some of it’s come true, some of it is yet to come, but no book has made either of us think so much about how technology might destroy what we think of as citizenship, work, travel, community, and life.
