The History of HTML

There was a schism between us young kids and Tim Berners Lee who wanted to keep the web essentially lowest common denominator all the time. We also you don't wouldn't know this now but back then the HTML was incredibly primitive in terms of what it could actually mark up. There wasn't any really presentation markup in HTML at that time because Tim coming from the HTML world had wanted to add essentially style sheets early on. That's where the idea of alt text came from of adding textual descriptions of the images so that that could be shown in place or as the and now as used as an tool tip.
