The Great Calcutta Killings

The Great Calcutta Killings led to a spiral of violence between Hindus and Muslims in that city. Lord Louis Mountbatten was tasked with negotiating the terms of independence with India's leaders, ASAP. The British wanted out of India by no later than June 1948. It probably didn't help thatMountbatten and Nehru were very close friends, leaving Jinnah as the odd man out.
