The Importance of Understanding the Problem of Misunderstanding
There's an enormous amount of psychological literature on this and I think it's true that misunderstanding can lead to conflict. The problem is, is that what is true in your own life or maybe even true among small groups doesn't necessarily scale to the global or national level. If you think about the bloodiest, most intractable conflicts of the last 5,000 years, virtually all of them are between groups that understand each other pretty damn well.
