The Battle of Megara

Erykles led an army of 10,000 citizens and 3,000 medic hoplights into the Megarid in 431 BC. This would be the largest Athenian army ever brought together as every able-bodied citizen was involved. The 100 Athenian ships had just passed Agena when word reached them that their fellow citizens were marching in full force out of Athens. They sailed over to the Megarian countryside where they laid waste to it. After ravaging the greater part of their territory, they retired back behind Athens' walls.
