The Whale Ship at the University of Connecticut

The only surviving whale ship in the whole world is 113 feet length on deck and it's about 315 registered tons. Toward the middle of the ship is the tri-works, two big vats heated by a brick furnace where workers would toss in huge chunks of whale blubber to melt down into valuable oil. Rendering the oil from the blubber is like rendering the fat from bacon when you cook it in a pan. And you can only imagine the smell.
