The Sloppiness of Early Christianity

Christianity is so unbelievably varied that to talk about it as a single religious movement is quite difficult. The later Platonists, especially, attempted to solve the problems raised by new trends by propounding, unifying and exclusionary discourses of their own. We should beware however of mistaking these elite discourses of power with social reality.
