Massachusetts legislators are proposing a law that would make it illegal for data brokers to buy and sell cellular location data. This is in part an effort to protect people who seek abortions, says Julian Zelizer. Companies that failed to comply with this bill, if it does become law, would face fines as well as open up the possibility of class action lawsuits against the company.
