The Food Stamp Programme
In the 19 thirties, when people were starving and there was no market for their food, farmers destroyed it. Millions upon millions of pigs cows were killed and just buried in the ground. The government stepped in and said it would buy food from farmers and distribute it to people who needed it. And that is how food stamps initially worked in the 19Thirties. Now a family of three with a combined income of 29 thousand dollars a year or less are entitled to snap benefits. In 20 21 due to supply chain issues during the pandemic, vegetables rotted on the fields. We will talk more about governmental assistance programmes next week.
