You worked with the legendary Jane Goodall. How did you first hear about her work? I was not a graduate at Oxford and I had a tutor there, a very distinguished man called Harold Pusey who was an expert on the conjro-cranium of the frog which was quite a long way from what I was interested in. He said that he might be interested to know what Anne Pusey is doing, his daughter. And that was she had applied to be a research assistant withJane Goodall. So I was just in a very lucky position to do that. Of course it was a fascinating time because so little was known about chimps in that time.
