In traditional Jewish communities families would have a cholent pot. They would throw in whatever they could and bring it to the bakery, the town bakery. It was be handed down from generation to generation. And so when a family would be coming home from Sabbath services in the morning they would stop by, pick up their cholENT pot and they would have a hot meal on Saturday.
