The risk of the serious diseases related to smoking goes down even after the first diagnosis of a clinical disease. On average, smokers who quit gain up to a decade of life expectancy. Gain most if they quit early in life, especially before the age of forty. But even smokers who quit after the age of 65 still live longer by quitting smoking.
