A Brief History of Constantinople

Citizens of Constantinople still received the doll of bread, wine and oil as had been the custom in Rome. Open-air systems were built to catch rainwater for use during a siege. A complex underground drainage system helped channel wastewater out of the city. About 1300 transport ships were docked back and forth to Alexandria between March and November.
