Jefferson - The Coup De Grass

Jefferson called it the coup de gras, because this hit him in the 18 teens when Jefferson was a man who was retired in his late 60s or 70s. By the end of his life, he could barely keep his creditors at bay. Six months after his death, there was an auction at Monticello in January of 1827. His grandson, Thomas Jefferson Randolph, took responsibility as the executor of Jefferson's estate for managing his debts. And they were not paid off until 1876, 50 years.
