Electronics, Photonics - What's the Photon?

In terms of electronics, photonics, I guess one question could be, do you think that like photonics itself will evolve? Like something new will come up. Or do you think Photonics itself will just become much more powerful and just supersede electronics? So what I'm thinking, my own view is that like so near future will be a combination of electronics and photonics,. integrating the ideas from electronics and photonic into designing a new device.
