I spent almost seven years in Tallahassee, Florida. At that point, panhandle culture was deep south. And I almost never heard any kind of racial remarks by white people. In 1991, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts and it was everywhere. This is just my own experience. We are living in a moment where the backlash is legislative. It is actually doubling down on the kinds of textbook narratives,. The ones that subscribe to white supremacist points of view.
