The main character, im often thought tob plato's mouthpiece in the dialogue, is a mystery guy. The two people who speak throughout the dialogue, for the most part, are the eleatic stranger and theotetus. So maybe it would even be fair to say that the point of the theory forms is just to claim that when you get hold of a definition of beautiful or beauty, that what you've got hold of is the cause of things being beautiful.
