In 1933, Diego Rivera painted a mural in the central courtyard of Ford's Dearborn headquarters. The work was controversial at the time because it depicted auto workers as cogs in giant capitalist machine. Edsel Ford paid for this artwork to be done and protected it from being destroyed by his son-in-law.
