The Ioffee Physico-Technical Institute
Ioffee Physico-Technical Institute in St Petersburg was once the pride of Soviet nuclear industry. plutonium was first extracted here using an enormous particle accelerator known as a cyclotron. Lawrence Viktor Levich and Viktor Nidenov have worked on this machine for over half a century. They are very proud of their machine, but Lawrence worries for the future. He doesn't think anyone is prepared to follow in his footsteps.
