Cyrus's Revolt Against Tisophanis

Cyrus's forces were growing quickly during 402 BC, but he did not wish to rouse the suspicion of his brother. So he sent a message to Artis Erces to insist that it was in preparation for a war with Tisophanis, not him. He also completely concealed the fact that he was assembling Greek mercenaries by never accumulating them in one place. Cyrus had various contingents laying siege to resistant cities in Ionia, another force fighting against the tribes of Mycia near the Hellespont. By the winter of 402 401 BC, he had control over most of Ionia, with the exception of Melidas, the last holdout.
