Generational Conflict

The heart of the book is that technological progress has produced an inflection point in both the positive, positivist structure of generations and the romanticist spirit of generations. The older generations a to an unprecedented extent, did play by the rules, did get rewarded. And so it's very difficult for them to really appreciate at an experiential level how different the experience of the american dream in progress is for a younger generation. This is the kind of psychologically challenging problem of the ideology of American progress.
