The Laws of Migration

Isabel: I think that all migrations share so much in common. E.G. Ravinsky, who was a 19th century geographer created what are known as the laws of migration. And he was basically saying that people go no farther than is necessary to achieve their goals. So if a family from New Orleans migrates out and makes lives for themselves and their families someplace else, this is a decision that they felt was the best for themselves and for their children. There's too much at stake for them not to succeed.
