The Evolution of the WTA

The World Tennis Association was formed 50 years ago by Billy Jean King and the co-founders of the WTA. The original nine were playing for at times 12 to 1 in terms of prize money or 10 to 1, but they were playing for a lot less compensation than the men. At combined events people were buying a ticket not specifically for a man's match or a women's match,. So the original nine said, you know, this is really not fair.
