I was interested in how you made that decision and sort of what you thought was the singular contribution of martin van buren to the creation of thi first mass party. As you know, you'v got to keep everyone together. You have to have common agenda. And the common agen is much harder to have if you're such a diverse party, demographically and ideologically. Many ways, the democrats become the majority party because they understand how to inspire a majority of white men to come out and vote.
