The Importance of Order in the Revolution
Napoleon's experience of a mob peacefully dispersing was the rare exception in that year of upheaval. All of his life, Napoleon valued order. So he could never bring himself to actually approve of riots and civil disorder. It just went completely against his character. But that didn't stop him from becoming an enthusiastic supporter of the revolution.
