Magellan's Voyage to the Canary Islands
The Armada de Maluca set sail on September 20th, 1519. Their first stop was the Canary Islands just west of modern-day Morocco. Magellan quickly developed a reputation for his meticulous and strict procedures. This caused many in the fleet to resent their Portuguese commander. The issue would dog Magellan literally to his dying breath.
